We hope that potential, new and existing members will find it a great resource.
SPTC is a long-established, successful tennis club, based at the Sports Centre on Filey Road. We are affiliated to the LTA and have ClubMark accreditation. Our summer programme is strong, with twice weekly club nights and a range of teams playing in the Yorkshire, Driffield and Scarborough leagues. In recent years we have built an active and popular winter programme at the indoor tennis centre at Pindar. In 2013 the goal is to develop the junior programme following the introduction of two exciting packages, which include a free weekly junior club night supervised by a coach and a junior box league. Full details of all the above are available on the club information page and other updates will appear in the latest news section but please don't hesitate to contact the relevant member of the management team if you require further information or would like to join us! 13 April 2013 WIMBLEDON DRAW 26 APRIL 2013 Sports Centre Bar 8pm onwards. All members who have a BTM number will be entered into the draw; if you don't have one yet, register at https://www.lta.org.uk/Members/Join/ to be included. Remember to put SPTC as your home club to appear on our list. If you can't make it, SPTC will telephone you with the result. A reserve list will be held in case winners don't want to take up their tickets. 10 April 2013 WIMBLEDON DRAW 2013 SPTC annual Wimbledon draw will take place in the Sports Centre Bar at 8pm 26 April 2013. Hope to see you there! CLUB NIGHTS 5 AND 12 APRIL CANCELLED IMPORTANT NEWS Due to ongoing work on the Filey Road Courts by SBC, outdoor Club Nights will not begin until Tuesday 16 April 2013. Tuesday 9th April Club Night will take place at Pindar. Sorry for the inconvenience - the Council are doing everything in their power to deliver us safe and playable courts in the Summer season.

25 January 2013 SPTC AGM 1 FEBRUARY 2013 Starts 7.30pm at Scarborough Sports Centre, Filey Road. Important news regarding the development and future of the Club will be discussed. please try and join us if you can. All Members welcome, please send any ideas for motions/questions to Helen Reay. We hope to see you there; there are big changes ahead for the Club with the development of the Filey Road site and we need and welcome as many views as possible.
30 November 2012 SPTC CHRISTMAS MEAL 2012 This year's event will take place at the Phoenix Hotel on Thursday 13 December by kind invitation of Bryan Edwards and is stunning value at £10 per person. There will be a (famous SPTC) quiz, games, raffle and decorations. The proposed menu is: French Onion Soup Cassoulet, Vegetarian Cassoulet or Coq au Vin Spicy red cabbage and Dauphinoise potatoes Puddings by Jilly Pigg (thanks Jilly!) CLUB TOURNAMENT NEWS The Annual Club Tournament will begin with opening rounds from 31 August, with the Finals day and barbeque to be held on Sunday 9th September at Wrench Green. Just turn up to take part! A Committee member will be on hand to co-ordinate the matches and may be able to match you with a partner if you require one, depending on numbers. Please arrive by 6pm if you want to take part to assist with organisation. After the opening matches, winners will make their own arrangements to progress up to the Finals Day. All opening matches will be played at Filey Road. In the event of bad weather, get in touch on 07855549420 and we will advise of an alternative date/venue. Mens' Singles/Doubles Friday 31st August 6pm Mixed Doubles Tuesday 4th September 6pm Womens' Singles/Doubles Wednesday 5th September JUNIORS - You are not forgotten! your event will be on Sunday 9th September, look out for an email from Rachel in the next few days. 9th August 2012 CLUB TOURNAMENT AND FINALS DAY/BARBEQUE 2012 This year's Club Tournament will take the same format as last year with rounds beginning during club night at the end of August/first week of September. The finals day and barbecue are scheduled for Sunday, 9th September at Wrench Green, to which all members are cordially invited (bring own meat and drink). More details soon on when tournament events will be held.

8 July 2012 MENS B TEAM BATTLE WITH WEATHER FOR COMFORTABLE WINS This has been described by some captains as the worst season weather-wise on record, with all the Club Teams struggling to complete matches and looking to rearrange a good number of fixtures. The B Team played 21 June at home against Leven, winning confortably, 9-0. This game was played indoors (it was raining - again!), with all 3 pairs only dropping 6 games in total. 28 June brough a home fixture against Malton B. John Conyers and Steve Mills won all 3 of their rubbers. Captain Lee Gamwell and partner Simon Boddywon 2 rubbes, as did Stuart Hughes playing alongside James Draper. Another comfortable victory for the B 3.

1 June 2012 JUNIOR COACHING NEWS Adam will be at the Filey Road centre from 4.45 to 6.00pm tonight, offering free coaching and supervised matchplay for our Junior Members. 15 May 2012 EARLY SEASON SUCCESS FOR MENS' DRIFFIELD 'B' The B Team played their first Driffield fixture of the season away to Leven A on 3 May. In an overall competitive match, the pairing of Paul Reddish and John Suddaby (making his debut for the team) won their three rubbers 8-5, 8-1, 8-1. Lee Gamwell and Simon Boddy won their first two rubbers convincingly 8-1, 8-5 and narrowly lost out in the third in a closely fought tie-break. Another newcomer to the team is Xavier Cordingley, who, with partner Stuart Hughes was unlucky to lose their first set coming back from 3-6 down to lose 6-8. The pair lost their second set 5-8 but finished strongly with a convincing 8-0 victory in the third set. Team captain Gamwell said: 'I'm thrilled with the victory. Leven are a good side and to come away with a 6-3 victory is encouraging for the rest fo the season.' Comment of the night: Simon Boddy: 'It's Malton away next Thursday - hope I'm selected - the suppers are fantastic!' Good to see you're taking your tennis seriously then Simon!
NARROW LOSS FOR DRIFFIELD MENS' A AGAINST CHERRY The Mens' A Team narrowly lost their first match of the season at home to Cherry Burton. Scarborough's first pair of Roger Amstell and Jim Mellor never looked threatened and won all three of their matches comfortably. Second pairing Mark White and Bryan Edwards played well, at one point serving for the match against Cherry's first pair before losing on a tie-break. A win here would have made the overall match an altogether closer result. A loss came for Mark and Bryan in the dark against Cherry's third pair, with the overall match more or less concluded. Jonathan Conyers and Adam Tildsley at third pair for Scarborough played well, but were unlucky not to take a rubber.
25 April 2012 WIMBLEDON TICKET DRAW FRIDAY 27 APRIL AT 8.00pm Don't forget the Wimbledon ticket draw after club night this Friday (27th) at approximately 8pm in the Filey Road bar. All members will be included in draw but please remember we will only release tickets to members who have paid their 2012 SPTC subscriptions in full and can give us a BTM number... Please watch this space at 5pm in the event of rain for club night information, but the draw will still take place at Filey Road but a little later (8.15) if play is at Pindar.

The 2012 SPTC AGM will be held at Scarborough Sports Centre, Filey Road on Friday 27 January 2012 starting at 7.30 pm. All members welcome, agenda will include election of Officers and the new Junior Development Strategy, as well as other business including annual fees and membership. 11 November 2011 LTA ALLPLAYTENNIS.COM News from Club Coach Ben Atkinson about a new LTA initiative called All Play. the idea behind the site is that it allows members to find a place to play, find players of a suitable level to play with and track and share results. There is also a points system, linked to the amount of games played. Sounds like a great idea - plus, it's FREE to sign up. 10 November 2011 SPTC/ FILEY ROTARY CLUB UKEWERE APPEAL - USED TENNIS BALLS/RACQUETS Ukewere is an island community of 350,000 people situated in the middle of Lake Victria in Tanzania. Filey Rotary Club are looking to collect used sports equipment to transport to the children there in February. The children have little or no facilities for sport and many have been abandoned or orphaned. Children's clothes would therefore also be greatly appreciated. If you can help, bring your donation to Club Night at Pindar tennis Centre on 15, 22 or 29 November, or call Rachel Hartley on 07855549420. The cost has been frozen this year at £ 3.50 for members and £5.00 for non-members. The Club subsidises these sessions and your support is much appreciated!
19 September 2011 CLUB TOURNAMENT 2011 RESULTS AND REPORT
The Club held the 2011 Tournament finals at Wrench Green in Hackness. A winning combination of good tennis, barbecue, fine weather and the country setting (as well as an extremely interested herd of cattle!) made for a very enjoyable day for players and spectators alike. The Juniors started the day, with James Marsden playing with great consistency, beating Ben Hartley 8 games to 5 to lift the trophy for the first time. In the mens' section, the younger William Reay was too strong for the veteran Jim Mellor, winning in style by 8 games to 2. The Mens' Doubles was a heavily contested match which looked like going either way at times, but Mellor and Dave Thompson were the eventual victors over Brian Edwards and Roger Amstell 8 - 6. In the womens' section, Hazel Cross proved too strong a competitor for the much younger Fiona Pollin, but Pollin was successful with Doubles partner Lynn Day, beating Cross and Judy Milburn 8 - 6, having at one point trailed 5 - 2. The Mixed event was won by Day and Mellor, convincingly beating Cross and Edwards by 8 games to 4.
16 August 2011 CLUB TOURNAMENT 2011 ANNOUNCEMENT! The SPTC 2011 Tournament is coming soon - read on below for details of events, dates and entry. Jim Mellor has agreed to take charge again this year and has adopted a different format: Each event will take place at Filey Road and will start at 6.00pm on the designated day - To take part you MUST be there and ready to play at 6.00pm. If not, unfortunately, your entry will be scratched. Plate competitions will be organised for following nights where there are enough players competing. The tournament will then run for 2 weeks, with players organising their own matches for each subsequent round and results can be emailed/phoned through to Jim. FINALS DAY will be on Saturday 3rd September, followed by an end of season barbeque at John and Helen Reay's house - all members welcome - always a fun event! To enter, please email Jim on jamesmellor023@btinternet.com as soon as possible. If you need a partner for the Mixed or Doubles, let Jim know when you enter and he will try to arrange this for you.
